International Application

Kellogg Community College is a Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certified school. As such, KCC accepts applications for non-United States citizens who intend to study in the U.S. as an F-1 or M-1 visa holder.

Please note: Refugees, immigrants or green card holders are not considered international students for admissions purposes; however, tuition residency may depend on current residential status.

Students should wait to start the application until they have collected all of the required documents.

Application Deadlines and Timeline

Application and all required materials must be completed and received in the Admissions office by the following deadline dates:

  • Fall Semester (beginning in August) - July 1st
  • Spring Semester (beginning in January) - October 1st
  • Transfer students or F-1 Students already in the U.S. have until August 1st (fall) or December 1st (spring)

Please allow 2-3 weeks for the application to be reviewed.  Applicants will be contacted by email after the application has been approved.  All documents submitted to KCC become the property of the College and will not be returned to the student.

Proof of Written and Oral English Competency

Applicants from non-English speaking countries must provide proof of written and oral English competency by submitting official copies of scores from the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System). Kellogg Community College requires the following English competency scores:

  • TOEFL: 173 or higher for the computer-based test; 61 or higher for the internet-based test; 500 or higher for the paper-based test
  • IELTS: A minimum score of 5

Proof of Finances


Students must show proof of finances (a minimum of $19,617) with an accompanying bank statement in English or certified English translation. The currency must be in United States dollars (USD).

KCC is NOT able to offer financial assistance to international students. All applicants must certify they have met the minimum cost estimate and have sufficient resources throughout their study program.

If the student is receiving financial support from a sponsor, the bank statement must be accompanied by the I-134, Affidavit of Support at uscis.gov/i-134.


Dependent(s)

Students who wish to have dependent(s) included as part of their F-1 visa will need to prove there are funds available to cover the dependent(s). Dependents are considered a spouse and children only; no other family member will be covered under the dependent status.


Additional Cost for Dependent(s)

  • First dependent: $300 per month = $3,600
  • Additional dependents: $200 per month each = $2,400
